Abstract

The S-transformed module time–frequency matrix (MTFM) has been proved that it is an effective analyzing method to extract short duration disturbance characteristics. A new classification method of power quality disturbances comparing the standard S-transformed time–frequency matrix of ideal disturbances with the characteristics of tested disturbances was proposed in this paper. Based on the maximum similarity principle without any other classifier, the S-transformed results were directly used in the method. This scheme is superior with simple principium and low calculation cost. The simulation results show that the proposed method is effective in classifying short duration disturbances and with better noise proof ability.
