The South Asian Journal of Finance is an international open access and double-blind peer reviewed journal focusing on the areas of finance in South Asian region. It is published bi-annually (June and December).

Introduction

As at 30th October 2020 there were twentyfour licensed commercial banks in Sri Lanka (CBSL, 2020). This reports a rapid growth in the banking industry during the last two decades. Sri Lanka, being a developing country, it is important to study the contribution of banking sector for the development of its economy. The increasing number of banks has caused efficiency and competition in the financial sector which has resulted in an increment of their profits (Ahmed, 2006).
