Abstract
A dynamic finite element(FE) analysis was carried out, using the DYNA3D explicit FE code, examining the response of a single multi-diameter section tubular steel structure, partially submerged in a fluid when subjected to a number of transverse underwater shock loads. The analysis compares the relative response of the structure to two loads which vary significantly in both amplitude and duration. Results indicate that neither of the two loads considered caused any significant permanent plastic deformation of the tubular structure; the global response of the structure is elastic.
