Abstract

Spherical HFB calculations are reported for a wide range of nuclei using a variety of “realistic” and schematic forces. It is shown that the realistic interactions lead to substantial shifts of the spherical single-particle levels as a function of N and Z, large enough in some cases to change the “magic” numbers away from the line of nuclear stability. A simple force is presented which can simulate these effects.
