Abstract

AbstractThis essay offers a review of scholarly criticism on the popular Victorian author Florence Marryat. In the last 15 years, scholars have become increasingly interested in Marryat's spiritualist fiction and the novel The Blood of the Vampire (Marryat, ). To assist future research efforts, this essay provides an overview of 19th‐century reviews of Marryat's early novels, surveys recent scholarship on her work, and offers some direction for future research.
