Abstract

I think this film should be the antidote to how the black male is perceived in 'The Colour Purple'. . . the film's black men ... are just onedimensional animals ... because if you read Alice Walker, that's the way she feels about black men. She really has problems with them.... To me, it's justifying everything they say about black people and black men in general that we are animals. (Lee, 1986: 48)
