Abstract

Concern over the number of sharps injuries in the health-care sector in Europe has led to a directive aimed at preventing such injuries. The provisions of the directive that were not already covered by existing health and safety law have been implemented by the Health and Safety (Sharps Instruments in Healthcare) Regulations 2013, which came into force in May 2013. This article sets out the key provisions of the 2013 regulations and considers their impact on district nursing practice.
