Abstract

ABSTRACT Structures on coral reefs are often subjected to the earthquakes. However, few researches have been reported about the seismic response of coral sand site. Shaking table tests of structures supported by pile groups were performed to reveal the seismic response of pile-soil-superstructure system by comparing with quartz sand site. Moreover, the effects of pile number and shaking intensity on the dynamic characteristics were analyzed. The results show that the liquefaction of coral sand site is more difficult than quartz sand site. The pile number and shaking intensity play key roles in the seismic response characteristics of coral sand site.
