Abstract
Abstract By using a spectrum subtraction method we are able to exhibit directly the 4f n →4f n+1 shakedown satellite near the L III edge (in LaPd 3 , PrPd 3 , NdPd 3 and LaNi 5 ). We demonstrate that such shakedown effects are sufficiently small that they may be ignored in (mixed) valence determinations based on the L III method.
