Abstract

During adolescence the mesocorticolimbic dopamine system is still undergoing important structural and neurochemical changes. This protracted development renders dopamine systems malleable to external factors including drugs of abuse. Adolescent male mice exposed to recreational (4 mg/kg), but not therapeutic-like (0.5 mg/kg) doses of amphetamine have altered mesocorticolimbic dopamine innervation. Whether this effect is paralleled by altered dopamine release dynamics is unknown.
