Abstract
Seven new species of Rhagovelia are described from the Raja Ampat Islands, lying immediately west of New Guinea. The new taxa are as follows: Rhagovelia batantana n. sp. and Rhagovelia rajana n. sp. from Batanta; Rhagovelia misoolana n. sp. from Misool; Rhagovelia calcarea n. sp. from Gam and Waigeo; Rhagovelia styx n. sp. from Waigeo; Rhagovelia salawati n. sp. from Salawati, and Rhagovelia transbintuni n. sp. from Batanta, Salawati, the western Vogelkop Peninsula and the Bomberai Peninsula. A key is provided to all Rhagovelia species currently recorded from the Raja Ampat Islands, accompanied by figures of the male parameres, other key characters, and distribution maps for all species.
