Abstract

Palliative care is a comprehensive medical, psychological, social and spiritual care in order to provide the necessary care for patients with incurable disease that rapidly and aggressively shortens the life of man. Pain is unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Cancer pain may be acute, sub acute and chronic. Pain in cancer patients may be caused by cancer, treatment or occurs accompanied with a disease. In all aspects of palliative care the highest and most responsible role of the nurse, even when it comes to the assessment of cancer pain through medical history, physical examination and additional numerous tests. Strong opioid analgesics are the cornerstone of therapy severe chronic cancer pain. Conclusion - Pain is not an integral part of life of cancer patients and should be treated. The approach to each patient should be individually, based on a careful assessment of the risks and benefits of the applied treatment.
