Abstract

Background and Aims: Fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) is both an adipocyte lipid chaperone and a secreted hormone that participates in glucose homeostasis. In both mice and humans, interventions reducing FABP4 result in improved cardiometabolic health. We studied FABP4 status in both healthy and obese adolescents. We tested the main hypothesis that insulin resistance (IR) suffices to produce higher levels of FABP4.
