Abstract

A new photonic method has been used to generate the sawtooth waveform in a serrodyne optical frequency translator. Experimental results demonstrate an overall sideband suppression of greater than 24.5 dB. The technique has wideband capability for realising higher optical frequency shifts and sideband suppression than electronic approaches.
