SERBIAN-RUSSIAN RELATIONS: A STORY OF THEIR CONVERSION AND PROSPECTS FOR COOPERATION AT THE CURRENT STAGE

Abstract

The paper considered the 2015 anniversary of the second Serbian Uprising (two hundred years back to the past) that earmarked the beginning of the establishment of the independent state of Serbia. 1815 may be considered a starting point in maturing relations between the Serbian and Russian peoples. The Russian Empire in the XIX century acted as promoter to the Balkan peoples in withstanding territorial ambitions of the Ottoman Empire across the Balkan Peninsula, which served for the foundation for a strong political, economic, and social and cultural cooperation. The relations between two countries over the past centuries and in the XXI century were complicated and controversial by nature, and in the XX century, the once strong ties of Slavic kinship came close to the breaking point. The author tried to consider in the paper conversion of relations between these countries and prospects for cooperation in political, economic and social domains.
