Abstract

Sequential rule based fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) algorithms are developed and validated. A set of expert rules were used for detecting and diagnosing faulty sensors. Experiments were conducted on an air handling unit (AHU) in a green building and, as well, on a small scale AHU simulator. A variable resistance device was connected in series/parallel to the temperature sensors to create artificial faults in the temperature sensors. In the experiments conducted, the developed rule based FDD algorithms successfully isolated faulty temperature sensors in the air handling unit.
