Abstract
>The solvent extraction behavior of molybdenum and tracer amount of technetium, from aqueous hydrocflioric acid or from aqueous acidic thiocyanate solution, by diethyl ether, methyl-isobutyl ketone, and tri-n-octyl amine dissolved in cyclohexane was investigated. The procedure for the preparation of carrier-free technetium activity from neutron irradiated MoOs target was esthblished. In HCl-NH/sub 4/NCS aqueous systems, both molybdenum(VI) and technetium(VII) were reduced with excess thiocyanate and formed their thiocyanate complexes at the same time exhibiting their maximum absorbancy at 462 m mu and 505 m mu , respectively, and the complexes were extractable with the above extractants. Liquid amine was especially efficient in the distribution of the complexes. When molybdenum was extracted by diethyl ether from 1 M HCl-1 M NH/ sub 4/NCS solution of neutron irradiated MoO/sub 3/ target, radiochemically pure /sup 99m/Tc was obtained in aqueous solution with final yield of about 80%.
