Abstract

1. 1. By alkaline extraction with methanol or ethanol, mercaptans can be selectively extracted from kerosine distillates of Soviet petroleums with yield of the order of 55–65% of the mercaptan content in the distillate. 2. 2. In the case of mercaptans separated from kerozine distillates of Old Ishimbai, Vvedenov, Tereklin and Markov crudes crudes it was found possible to replace tert-dodecylmercaptan used at present as emulsion polymerization regulator for the production of butadiene-styrene rubbers by mercaptans of petroleum origin. 3. 3. The proposed method of separating mercaptans from middle fractions of petroleum enables these mercaptans to be used as suitable raw material for chemical and petrochemical processes.
