Abstract

It is demonstrated on the example of an oligoarylate prepared from phenolphthalein and terephthaloyl chloride how the size exclusion separation mechanism on silica changes to adsorption with varying composition of a binary eluent consisting of polar and non-polar solvents. Critical chromatographic conditions have been found. Near the critical solvent composition simultaneous separation according to functionality and to molar mass is possible. The functionality-type distribution and the molar mass distribution have been determined for a number of samples.
