Abstract

Reversed-phase of liquid chromatography with isocratic solvent elution is proposed for the separation of ergot alkaloids with a wide range of polarities. The separation properties of ergot alkaloids was studied on Lichrosorb RP-2, RP-8, RP-18 and Spherisorb ODS columns. It has been shown that the reversed-phase stationary phase on silica gel has a marked influence on the separation of ergot alkaloids. Lichrosorb RP-8 and RP-18 have the best separation properties for the complete range of ergot alkaloids with great differences in polarity, while Lichrosorb RP-2 and Spherisorb ODS are more convenient for the separation of polar ergot alkaloids. This analytical method represents a new possibility for the analysis of ergot alkaloids.
