Abstract
Communication technology has taken over the world with increasing usage of Internet, which plays a vital role in the field of e-shopping. In communication technology, opinion mining or sentiment analysis is one of the emerging research areas because of the large number of reviews provided by consumers on various online platforms, such as social networks, e-commerce websites, and many such forums. There are a number of e-commerce websites available for users to buy products from. Before the online shopping portals, or e-commerce platfroms, came into existence, consumers had to rely on public surveys or had to question people about the product or features of that product. However, nowadays, e-commerce websites and online portals have made it easier for consumers by allowing them to read reviews about the products and their features before purchase. Nevertheless, at the same time, it is quite difficult for users to select a product as there are thousands of reviews on e-commerce websites. With such a huge number of reviews, it is extremely cumbersome for users to read them all and make decisions about the product or its features. It is a complex task to determine the important features of a product from thousands of mixed reviews and also determine the sentiments behind those reviews. A review is a sequence of texts containing the opinions of customers, based on their experience. There is no fixed format for customers to write reviews. However, there is need for an IoT device to save energy and extract and analyze reviews because they are quite important in opinion mining and sentiment analysis. The IoT seeks to create a smarter world and a simpler way of life by saving time, energy, and money. Expenses in multiple sectors can be minimized by this technology. Massive investments and multiple IoT studies have made IoT a rising trend over the recent years. The aim of this chapter is to analyze the use of IoT and machine learning (ML) for opinion mining or sentiment analysis. Consider a situation where a user wants to buy a product from an e-commerce website, but then the user is required to read the reviews of other customers manually; however, suppose there is an IoT device that extracts and analyzes the reviews automatically, and then presents a user with a summary of features of the product and perspectives about the features, including whether the opinions of those features are positive or negative. With an IoT device, users are not required to open a mobile phone or computer to find out the opinions of customers about the product, which also leads to energy saving. In this chapter, we proposed the use of an IoT-based device that mainly makes use of the IoT mining machine, Raspberry Pi, to evaluate sentiments and display results on a smart mirror connected to the IoT device. Thus, there is no need for a computer system or a mobile device to find the sentiments about the product, which definitely saves energy.
