Abstract

The vacuum evaporated thin films of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) were prepared at room temperature and structurally investigated using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The temperature dependence of dark and photoconductivity of as-deposited (i.e. unexposed) and exposed ZnPc films were measured in the temperature range 305–389K. Some of the optical absorption such as molar extinction coefficient, the oscillator strength, the electrical dipole strength have been evaluated. The optical band gaps of the ZnPc thin films have been determined from α2 versus hν graph. These films have been studied as chemical sensors such as methanol and ammonia.
