Abstract
The Journal of the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka publishes the results of research in all aspects of Science and Technology. The journal also has a website at http://www.nsf.gov.lk/. 2020 Impact Factor: 0.515The JNSF provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Highlights
The study of insulator to metal and semiconductor to metal transitions in inorganic solids has attracted much attenti ~ n . ~I,t~is well known that transition metal compounds, notably those of iron exhibits this phenomenon at relatively low temperature^.^.^.^ In this note we describe o u r observations on semiconductor t o metal transition in ferric molybdate (Fe, [Moo,],)
The plots of current density (J) vs potential gradient (E) at different temperatures are indicated in Figlire I
The dashed curve A gives the points at which the transition to metallic phase takes place abruptly when J is increased
Summary
The study of insulator to metal and semiconductor to metal transitions in inorganic solids has attracted much attenti ~ n . ~I,t~is well known that transition metal compounds, notably those of iron exhibits this phenomenon at relatively low temperature^.^.^.^ In this note we describe o u r observations on semiconductor t o metal transition in ferric molybdate (Fe, [Moo,],). The voltage -current characteristics are found to be highly nonlinear. The plots of current density (J) vs potential gradient (E) at different temperatures are indicated in Figlire I . The transition to tlic highly conducling ~lietallicphase is dependent upon temperature as well as current density.
