Abstract

Self-driving or autonomous cars and vehicles use cameras and lasers to determine their path and detect and avoid any obstacle in the way. The vehicle uses the Global Positioning System to determine the exact location. This chapter discusses the different types of technologies used by self-driving cars to operate and the key technologies in self-driving cars namely car navigation systems, path planning, and environment perception. The chapter also discusses the use of cameras, LIDAR, machine learning, and other technologies which are used in making self-driving cars operable. This chapter also focuses on the relevant law in India and other challenges in introducing self-driving cars.
