Abstract

Two new two-dimensional (2D) metal–organic frameworks constructed from mixed 3-carboxymethoxy phenyl acrylic acid (3-H 2cpa) and 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bipy) ligands, [Zn(3-cpa)(4,4′-bipy) 0.5] n ( 1) and [Mn(3-cpa)(4,4′-bipy) 0.5(H 2O) 2] n ( 2), have been synthesized under hydrothermal condition and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Complex 1 presents a 2D layer framework along the (1 0 0) plane, which is derived from paddle wheel units Zn 2(COO) 4 as secondary building units (SBUs) linked further by 3-cpa and 4,4′-bipy ligands. Complex 2 shows a 2D polymeric framework assembled by wave-like [Mn(3-cpa)] n chains and linear 4,4′-bipy ligands. The luminescence property of 1 in the solid state has been further studied, and result reveals that it displays luminescent property in the green region.
