Abstract

The article is about the expansion of the boundaries of a scientific communication as well as with the penetration of elements of other types of discourse into the scientific sphere. The paper recognizes and substantiates that some reflexive-evaluative and reference speech actions which are usually not attributes of a persuasive communication (including a scientific communication) can be supposed to be such alien elements. On the one hand, these actions temporarily lower their sender’s professional status (which may seem to contradict the tactics of a scientist’s positive self-presentation), but on the other hand, they are focused on performing a number of important functions, for example, the function of avoiding criticism, which justifies their use in a scientific speech.
