Abstract
This book, edited by Claude A. Frazier, MD, has 860 multiple choice questions submitted by a panel of 18 teachers of allergy from various medical schools in the United States. It is intended for self-assessment for proficiency in understanding current concepts of allergic reactions, their diagnosis, and treatment. Of special interest to otolaryngologists are the five sections on immunologic and pharmacologic mechanisms of allergic reactions, management of serous otitis, drug allergy, pediatric problems, and antihistamines. Especially valuable are the references cited for the particular answers to the questions. With the advent of peer review, relicensing, and recertification, such a comprehensive set of questions and answers should prove to be a valuable adjunct to study, both for examinations and to keep current the knowledge of allergy, in which developments are occurring so quickly. It is a useful book for this purpose.
