Abstract

We report the synthesis of self-assembled carbon nanohelices on iron needles using microwave plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition. The catalytic growth can be explained by the vapor–liquid–solid theory. Their morphologies and microstructures are investigated by scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, nanobeam diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy. The field-emission investigations show a rather low turn-on electrical field and high emission current.
