Abstract

Adequate lighting including surgical lighting systems and pedestal examination lights are essential in dermatological procedures and surgeries. However, these overhead fixed lighting systems are expensive, limited in mobility, and in need of continuous electrical power supply. Surgical headlights on the other hand, are portable with adjustable light-emitting diode that can illuminate areas of the surgical field, unreachable by overhead lighting, which increases procedural precision. Unfortunately, some pitfalls of surgical headlights include high cost, high maintenance fee, heavyweight, requiring additional battery cartridges, and low accessibility in resource-poor or developing countries.
