Abstract

Self-assembled PbTiO3 nanoislands were successfully prepared on Pt/SiO2/Si(100), Pt/SrTiO3(111)(110) and Pt/MgO(111)(110) substrates by MOCVD. Pyramidal-shape nanoislands were observed for PbTiO3 on Pt/SiO2/Si, Pt/SrTiO3(111) and Pt/MgO(111). On Pt/SrTiO3(110) and Pt/MgO(110), triangular-prism-shaped islands were observed. Size and direction of nanoislands on Pt/SiO2/Si were formed randomly. On the other hand, nanoislands on Pt/SrTiO3 and Pt/MgO substrates were arranged in an orderly direction. Piezoresponse force microscope measurements showed that nanoislands on these various substrates had piezo- and ferroelectricity.
