Abstract

A gradual decline in count rate was observed in liquid scintillation counting of RNA in aqueous solution, probably caused by selective association of water molecules to the polar groups of RNA. The effect was abolished by Hyamine 10-X. Neither internal nor external standards revealed the quenching.
