Abstract

In this article a selection of welding process to fabricate small carbon steel tanks with capacity of 55 cubic meters under atmospheric pressure and room temperature is adopted. The welding processes that used to choose from are five, which, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), Flux Cord Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). A methodology of integration two Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) with Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is used. The MCDM methods which used are Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and a modified version of Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations PROMETHEE II which is Extended PROMETHEE II (EXPROM2). The result of the purposed methodology reveals that (GMAW) is the optimum welding process from all others for that type of application.
