Abstract

Selecting a process for welding large scale equipment on site demands special expertise due to the numerous variables to be considered. This paper is aims for applying a decision support methodology to the selection of a welding process for a 16000 cubic meter storage tank welded on site. Five welding processes are chosen to select from, namely, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), Flux Cord Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). To reach this goal a methodology of combining Quality Function Deployment (QFD) with two Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) which are Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and a modified version of Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations PROMETHEE II which is Extended PROMETHEE II (EXPROM2). The analytical result showed that (SMAW) is the optimum welding process.
