Abstract

With the sharp rise in energy demand, the choice of appropriate power generation technology (PGT) has become a significant problem in generation sector. There are various alternatives of generation technologies. Hence, certain criterion is required to be formulated for selection of appropriate alternative. To solve such problem, a framework for PGT selection has been presented in this paper. In this paper, five different PGTs comprising of Solar PV (SPV), Wind turbine generators (WTG), Biomass generators (BMG), Diesel generator technology (DGT), Thermal power technology (TPT) have been analyzed. Nine different criteria have been selected for the ranking and selection of best feasible PGT. To rank, all PGTs, two methods viz. CRITIC (for criteria weight assessment) and TOPSIS (for alternative ranking) have been used. Based on the results it can be concluded that biomass generator provides the best solution for power generation. The novelty part of this paper is that the combination of CRITICTOPSIS has been used for best technology selections with considered sustainability criteria.
