Abstract
Dicresol is used in the production of plastics, surfactants and varnishes. The authors describe the production of dicresol by the cymene method. Tests are done to evaluate the influence of metals on the hydroperoxide yield in the dicymene oxidation. Timewise changes are shown in cymene conversion as measured by the accumulation of hydroperoxides in the oxidized product in the presence of various types of steel. The corrosion rate of different steels used in vessel fabrication as a function of water content in diethylene glycol is presented.
