Abstract

The recent development of Croatian dialect lexicography has strengthened research on the folk vocabulary of this Slavic language and facilitated studies in Slavic etymology. This article is dedicated to a distinguished professor that is celebrating her birthday and is an outstanding researcher of Slavic etymology and a great expert in South Slavic vocabulary. I discuss the geography, semantic development, and etymology of three native lexemes: two from the Cakavian dialect and featuring rich and varied semantics, and one now-obsolete lexeme from the Kajkavian dialect.
