Abstract

A SIMD architecture is adopted in the development of the SNAP product from Hecht-Nielsen Neurocomputers (HNC) Software Inc. in San Diego, California. The term SNAP stands for SIMD Numerical Array Processor™. A Sun-SPARCstation can be used as a host computer to operate the SNAP acceleration boards. This dedicated hardware accelerator is suitable for various problems in signal processing, image processing, neural networks, and pattern recognition. It can be applied in a wide range of engineering, scientific, statistical, and economic problems, as well as in text searching through databases.
