Abstract

A method is presented for the dynamic effective stress analysis of pile groups including nonlinear stress-strain response of the foundation soils and pile-to-pile interaction. The method is used to evaluate the behaviour of a large bridge foundation under strong earthquake shaking, and to demonstrate the importance of including the effects of inertial interaction in the determination of stiffness.
