Abstract

Seismic Reservoir Characterization requires a seismic signal whose properties are stationary. This cannot always be guaranteed by conventional processing Quality Controls (QC's). Well‐guided seismic processing is one option to achieve a quantitative QC of the seismic processing. It consists in integrating borehole data into the earliest stage of processing, in order to help choosing the best processing parameters to enhance the reservoir characterization reliability. However useful this technique may be proved, it still has limitations in that it only gives a local estimation of the seismic quality at the location of the well. It is also very much dependent upon the reliability of the seismic‐to‐well ties. In this paper, we propose a complementary approach which not only takes the wellbore information into account, but also relies on much more extensive attributes to assess seismic quality at each step of the processing. This methodology has been successfully tested and validated on a Tight Gas field located onshore.
