Abstract

Abstract It is shown by various means that a significant amount of order exists in the crystalline bulk and in the fold surfaces of lamellar crystals crystallized from the supercooled melt. Analysis of viscoelastic relaxation times and isothermal crystallization rates leads to the conclusion that lamellar crystals showing a significant measure of internal and fold surface order are incompatible with the existence of Gaussian random coils in the supercooled polymeric melt.
