The ICES 2022 - a multidisciplinary conference - initiated under the auspices of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), Trent University (Canada) and the IIES Network, and was taken place in the occasion of the 65th anniversary of HCMUT.This year, the ICES Conference with the theme of “Integrated Multidisciplinary Sciences towards Sustainable Development” was held in Ho Chi Minh City (24 - 26 Oct 2022) and Phu Quoc, Vietnam (27 - 28 Oct 2022). The Conference was successfully organized by a synergy of the consortium of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, International Institute for Environmental Studies, Trent University, Nan Jing University, Kunsan National University (KSNU), Dalhousie University, and Institute for Circular Economy Development - VNU-HCM.The ICES 2022 covers five main topics of (i) Civil Engineering, (ii) Environmental Sciences and Management, (iii) Environmental Engineering and Technologies, (iv) Earth Sciences/Natural Resources, and (v) Circular Economy/Sustainability. Participants gained insights into current research in civil engineering, earth and environmental science, policy and planning, and attained a worthy opportunity to meet colleagues from several institutions, universities, and agencies. For students, this is a chance to share their research outcomes and to build-up potential collaborative relationships at an international level. The Conference drew substantial attention from leading scientists, managers, lecturers, and merit students from universities, institutes, and research centers as well as officials from relevant government departments, agencies, companies, and enterprises.Overall, the Conference has attracted more than 216 papers from scientists, researchers, government managers, and graduate students. Among them, 79 high-quality papers were recommended to submit for peer-reviewing. Then, the double-blind review process was carried out for the 67 papers, in which each paper has been reviewed for its merit and novelty by at least two reviewers and one editor by matching the content areas. As a result, a total of 37 papers have been finally selected for this proceedings book. We believe that this proceedings book provides a broad overview of recent advanced studies in the fields of Civil Engineering, Material, Circular Economy, Environment, Resources and Earth Sciences for readers. Most importantly, we would like to express our sincere thanks to (i) Division of Science and Technology – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (Prof. Lam Quang Vinh); (ii) Rector of HCMUT (Prof. Mai Thanh Phong) for their help and other supports. We would like to thank all the reviewers for their timely and rigorous reviews of the papers and all authors for their interests in the ICES 2022.List of Editors are available in the pdf.

Here we synthesise the results of three participatory workshops to explore sustainable development priorities in eastern Africa, and discuss these in the context of Earth and environmental science. The planet is a core pillar of sustainable development, and the engagement of Earth and environmental scientists is vital to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2017, the British Geological Survey gathered 76 delegates from 48 organisations at three workshops in Nairobi (Kenya), Lusaka (Zambia), and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania). Using the SDGs as a reference tool, participants (i) identified development priorities at regional (eastern Africa) and national scales, (ii) explored the Earth and environmental science research and data needs to help address these, and (iii) co-designed relevant science-for-development projects. Participants identified sustainable development priorities to be basic (or immediate) needs, including zero hunger (SDG 2), education (SDG 4), ending poverty (SDG 1), and water and sanitation (SDG 6). Participants also described examples of Earth and environmental science research, training, technologies, monitoring and management to support sustainable development. Emerging themes included environmental data (collection, management, integration, access), policy and regulations (integrating environmental science, and policy coherence), resource management (degradation, pollution and environmental protection), and scientific education and understanding (training, knowledge exchange, public understanding of science). A comparative synthesis of existing regional and national development strategies indicates that current narratives of development interventions do not fully capture the opportunities from environmental data integration and policy coherence. Greater engagement with and by the Earth and environmental science community could help to advance these themes to support sustainable development in eastern Africa. This would support efforts to reduce environmental degradation, improve natural resource management, and inform the utilisation of natural resources to improve economic growth and social wellbeing.

The Institute of Urban Environment (IUE) is a joint undertaking of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the municipal government of Xiamen (Amoy), Fujian Province, a busy port city located in southeastern China facing the Taiwan Strait. Founded in 2006 with an initial investment of 300 million ($37.5 million), the mission of IUE is to perform basic research in earth sciences, urban ecology, environmental sciences, informatics, and related technologies to provide a scientific basis for the sustainable development of Chinese cities and their clusters. We write this informational article to make conservation biologists aware of this extraordinary new facility providing exciting opportunities for collaborative urban conservation and environmental research in the Asia Pacific region, which contains many of the oldest yet fastestgrowing urban centers in the world. Up and running in a remarkably short time, IUE has been designed to house 150 permanent staff scientists, 260 contractual staff, 300 MS and PhD graduate students, and 50 postdoctoral and visiting scientists. Foreign scholars and graduate students are welcomed to work in IUE, where modern research facilities and housing are provided (http://www.iue.ac.cn/en/index.asp). The mission and key research areas of the institute include the following:

“Multidisciplinary Approach in the Environmental and Earth Sciences for Sustainable Development” ICEES 2023 (https://www.its.ac.id/tlingkungan/icees2023/) INTRODUCTION Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) celebrates its 63rd Anniversary on November 10th, 2023. To commemorate this moment, the Department of Environmental Engineering (DEE), Faculty of Civil, Planning, and Geo-Engineering (CIVPLAN) at ITS, in collaboration with the Department of Geophysics Engineering of ITS and the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), conducted the International Conference on Environmental and Earth Sciences (ICEES). ICEES 2023 took place in conjunction with the CIVPLAN’s International Conference, which serves as a platform to connect with other seminars held by each department within the faculty. Environmental issues have been increasing as a result of many factors that lead to potential detrimental effects on our children’s future. For the past 40 years, DEE has been spending tremendous efforts to contribute ways to reduce and minimize environmental pollution. This conference takes the general theme of the Multidisciplinary Approach in the Environmental and Earth Sciences for Sustainable Development, supporting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Rapid population growth and economic development have become contributing factors to environmental degradation. Urban areas receive more pressure due to escalated urbanization, excess use of natural resources, and pollution of the environment. Environmental pollution has been linked to various diseases, such as water-borne diseases and respiratory diseases, and the endangerment of biodiversity. Over the past decades, cities in Asia have been rapidly growing. Climate change has exacerbated the deterioration in environmental quality in the cities. Communities living in small islands and coastal areas became more vulnerable than before.More efforts are needed to develop solutions to create sustainable cities and communities. ICEES 2023 emphasizes multidisciplinary research in environmental and earth sciences for sustainable development along with practices and fosters exchanges among scientists, practitioners, professionals, and young researchers who are concerned with the above aspects. DEE strives to contribute not only to society but also to knowledge updates.List of Objective, Conference Date and Platform, Participants, Acknowledgements, Sessions, Organizers, Contact person, Administration, Secretariat, Documentation, International Advisory Board, Scientific Committee are available in this Pdf.
