Abstract

With technological advancements, the Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming a significant method to achieve remote healthcare monitoring, where secure and efficient medical data retrieval is crucial. However, IoT devices have limited resources, so it is hard to achieve secure and efficient medical data acquisition. Edge devices in an edge cloud can offer abundant resources, whereas the Named Data Networking (NDN) can improve data retrieval efficiency. Therefore, we are motivated to combine IoT with Edge cloud (IE) and exploit NDN to achieve IE-based medical data retrieval. Inspired by the idea, we propose a secure healthcare monitoring framework integrating NDN-based IoT with edge cloud. This framework exploits the advantages of NDN to improve efficiency of medical data retrieval, and employs ciphertext and signature to support security of medical data delivery. The framework is evaluated quantitatively. According to the data results, the framework reduces the medical data retrieval latency and cost by nearly 28% and 52% compared with the existing solution, respectively.
