Abstract

This section presents three case studies that are at the cutting edge of strategic change valuation. The benefits of these three strategic change initiatives, that heretofore have been relegated to be intangible, are demonstrated to show monetary value to the business. These case studies are meant to bring the strategic change valuation process to life, illustrated with real-world examples. The first case study deals with executive coaching. A comprehensive study is conducted that evaluates coaching along the lines of the five levels of analysis. The ROI shows that coaching produced more than a 700% ROI for the business. Recommendations are made about how to increase the value of coaching for the business. The second case study deals with demonstrating an ROI for aligning the capabilities of the organization to a newly created strategy. The organization capability alignment process produced a 1000% ROI. The third case study addresses the topic of knowledge management. This is one of the hottest areas in strategic change, and there is a great deal of interest in learning about how knowledge management creates tangible value for the business. This study shows how knowledge management produced ROIs of more than 400% and discusses ways to increase the business value of knowledge management. All three of these case studies show how to tame the intangibles by demonstrating the tangible, monetary benefits that these strategic change initiatives produced.
