Abstract
Sealed nickel-cadmium cells and batteries are a clean, reliable, and lightweight source of power. These premium products are used in a diversity of consumer, industrial, and military devices needing battery power. Sealed nickel-cadmium batteries are especially well suited to applications where a self-contained power source increases the versatility or reliability of the end product. Nickel-cadmium batteries pack more energy into a given weight or volume than any other widely available rechargeable battery. Using nickel-cadmium batteries allow the design of small, lightweight devices such as instruments, transceivers, cordless telephones, video cameras, and shavers. Sealed nickel-cadmium batteries accommodate extended charging at recommended charge rates, with no noticeable effect on performance or life. This means that simple and inexpensive chargers may be used successfully with these cells. Because of their ability to handle continuous overcharge, sealed nickel-cadmium batteries are widely used in standby power applications and in appliances that maintain a readiness to serve.
