Abstract

Skin care cosmetics are designed to maintain cleanliness of the skin, as well as to provide moisture and oil effectively to skin that is affected by external factors. The polymers used for skin care exhibit generally pseudoplastic or thixotropic flow and possess properties to form gels readily. These polymer gels play extremely significant role from the viewpoints of ease of use and functionality. Viscosity control, stabilization of emulsion, and maintenance of moisture are the functions of polymers in skin care cosmetics. Based on their charges, hydrophilic gelation agents can be classified into nonion, anion, and cation type. The hydrophilic gelation agents for skin care must be safe to the skin and, at the same time, have the ability to increase viscosity. For these reasons, the nonionic or anionic type is generally used. There are three types of gels used for hair care products: a styling gel, a conditioning gel, and pomade. A face cleanser is used to clean oxidative degradation products from the skin, physiological by-products, such as perspiration residue, dirt from air, and make-up foundation cosmetics. There are many types of face cleansers designed for factors such as the age of the user, skin quality, type of dirt, and personal preferences.
