Abstract1.Salivary secretion of Cassidaria echinophora was analysed for inorganic ions and ninhydrin positive material.2.The secretion is hyperosmotic and has a pH below 1. The dominating anion is sulfate. The amount of organic components is very low.3.The acid secretion of this and certain other marine gastropods may function in defense or feeding.
