Abstract
In this paper, a macrodiversity system with a macrodiversity selection combining (SC) receiver and two microdiversity SC receivers is considered. Received signal experiences the κ-μ multipath fading resulting in the signal envelope variation, as well as the Gamma shadowing, resulting in the signal envelope power variation. Microdiversity SC receivers reduce effects of the κ-μ short term fading. Additionaly, macrodiversity SC receiver mitigates the Gamma long term fading, which affects on system performance. The average level crossing rate (LCR) of microdiversity SC receiver output signal envelope is calculated. Using this result, the closed form expression for the average LCR of the macrodiversity SC receiver output signal envelope is derived. The obtained numerical expression is plotted to show influences of the Gamma shadowing severity, κ-μ multipath fading severity and Rician factor on the average level crossing rate.
