Abstract

Unpolarized Raman spectra of AgCl and AgBr crystals have been measured at 300°K and 77°K. The AgCl spectra were compared with the peak positions predicted by the two-phonon density of states, and assignments of the Raman peaks were made. Unusually intense peaks ascribable to the 2 LO (Γ) overtone were found in the spectra of both AgCl and AgBr. This intensity enhancement was ascribed to phonon resonance with excitonic transitions.
