Laser-excited phonon Raman spectrum of garnets

Abstract

The laser excited low-temperature Raman spectra of single crystals of Yttrium Aluminum, Yttrium Gallium and Ytterbium Aluminum Garnet have been studied from 100–800 cm −1. Evidence has been found of factor group splitting. Although the crystallographic data indicate that only small differences exist between the crystallographic structures, marked differences occur in the Raman spectra of these crystals.
