Abstract
Abstract Four insecticides were evaluated for control of second generation European corn borer larvae. The.corn was planted on 5 Jun as a randomized block design with 4 replicates. Individual plots consisted of single rows, 30 m long, with 96.5 cm row spacing. Granular insecticides were applied in a band over the wborl stage corn using a Gandy applicator driven by electric motor and mounted on a Hi-Boy. Liquid insecticides were applied using Solo backpack sprayer at 25 psi. Insecticide applications were made on 16 Jul. Ten stalks were destructively sampled and the number of European corn borer larvae recorded on 24-26 Jul. Ten stalks were split from each plot and the number of cavities recorded on 16 Aug. At harvest, the number of larvae per ear was counted in fifteen ears from each plot. Data were subjected to ANOVA and treatment means were compared to the control by Dunnett's test (SAS Institute).
